Statement on Passage of Bill 28-17 ($15 Minimum Wage)

Rockville, MD - "Today Montgomery County took a significant step forward for working families, raising the minimum wage to $15 for all workers by 2024. I congratulate the advocates who worked tirelessly to bring about this victory.

This measure is not perfect. We could have had a stronger bill, along a more favorable timeline -- and we could have had it months ago.

Fortunately, countless advocates did not give up and they ensured their voices were heard by our elected officials. I look forward to proactively working with these advocates to take the next steps toward making life in our community more affordable. These include boosting our affordable housing supply, working toward tuition-free Montgomery College and universal pre-K, and ensuring all residents have access to quality, affordable transportation options."
