Majority of Rockville City Council Backs Ben Shnider in District 3 Montgomery County Council Race

Shnider secures the endorsements of three sitting council members in challenge to incumbent

Rockville, MD - Today, Rockville City Councilmembers Julie Palakovich Carr and Mark Pierzchala announced their support for Ben Shnider, a progressive Democrat challenging Sidney Katz for the District 3 County Council seat. They join Councilmember Virginia Onley, who announced her support for the challenger earlier this year, in backing Shnider’s bid.

“I’m ready for more progressive leadership in our county government. I worked with Ben to develop and enact the Fostering Community Trust Act, which ensures that our community is a welcoming place for all of its residents and that city police aren’t proactively enforcing federal immigration laws,” said Palakovich Carr. “I enthusiastically support Ben’s campaign for County Council because I know he’ll work with all our residents to build a more just and inclusive community.”

“Ben and I share commitment to human rights for all and a passion for ensuring our community is planning for necessary infrastructure as we continue to grow,” said Pierzchala. "I applaud Ben for challenging the incumbent Katz. The County Council needs some big changes, and it's time to support high-quality challengers who can shake up a legislative body that seems to be out of ideas."

Shnider said of the endorsements,“Councilmembers Palakovich Carr, Pierzchala, and Onley have been stalwart leaders in working toward a more equitable and sustainable future for the City of Rockville. I am humbled to have their support and look forward to serving alongside them.”

The primary election is scheduled for June 26th. Early voting is June 14th-21st.
